WHY WE ALL LOVE CHOCOLATES

Chocolates are the favourites of children and adults alike. The history of chocolates draws back to a long time right to 1900B.C. The Aztecs, an ancient civilization liked it so much that they sometimes used cacao seeds as their currency. Since then chocolates and the use of chocolates has gone through a sea of changes. Earlier chocolate was used mostly as a beverage and people didn’t know its use as we do today. The drinks were generally spiced up, mixed with wine or corn juice.

It was only in the recent times that it organic cacao powder has been mixed with sugar and used in the form as it is today. Many times we have heard people say –“Don’t eat chocolate; it would harm your teeth.”Actually chocolate themselves, do not cause any harm, it’s the sugar in it that does. It contains a sticky substance called plaque which harms the teeth.

Let us now understand the chemistry of chocolates. Scientist have been trying to study the chemistry of chocolates for a long time and have come to the conclusion that chocolates contain a chemical called anandamide which is same to the one produced by the human brain. This actually is a feel good chemical. However the anandamide produced by the brain is broken down as soon as it is produced. The anandamide in chocolates when in taken makes the anandamide in brain last little longer and little more persistent in nature. This gives feel good factor to the body. Although chocolates do not contain the same active chemicals like marijuana, but the effect on the brain is similar. Chocolate in this way reduces feeling s of uneasiness and depression to some extent.

Chocolates, as we see are not as harmful as believed to be. You can find some best chocolates in chocolates basket offered during the festive seasons. These chocolates are made up of  which is good for the health.
