Chocolate is a multipurpose food. You can eat it as a
confection, as a dip, as a dessert or just simply go for a delicious hot or a
cold beverage. Dark chocolate does hold some health benefits due the
antioxidants it contains. Treating your craving for your favorite Cote d'Or and Lindt
truffle occasionally
is absolutely fine unless you are over doing on them.
Though, it
has some health benefits to offer like reduced risk of strokes and diabetes,
skin protection and many more but, eating chocolate in large quantities can do
more damage than good.
Given below are some side effects
of eating too much chocolate:
-
Weight Gain: The logic is very simple, chocolate
is high in calories and excess calorie intake leads to weight gain. Being
overweight can further result in a number of health related issues including
high blood pressure and other heart diseases. So, eat only two or three small
pieces to fulfil the craving and do keep a check on your weight.
-
Sugar problems: Chocolate is high in sugar
content and high amounts of sugar in your diet can lead to lot of dental
problems like gum diseases and cavities. Another problem associated with high
sugar intake is that if you are diabetic then chocolate can cause your blood
sugar to get raised by contributing more than the suitable amount of sugar.
-
High
Potassium: Yes, our much-loved Cote d'Or and Lindt truffle is high in potassium which is not a
problem for most of the people. But those with kidney disease need to keep a
check on their potassium intake to avoid raised levels of mineral in their
blood.
-
Digestion
Discomfort: Chocolate has caffeine and is very acidic. Acidic foods can cause
heat burns, inflammation of existing stomach ulcers, and other digestive
discomforts. Chocolate might taste amazing but you will definitely regret once
it will hit your stomach.
